Bendigo Bank to the rescue!

The really host summer days seem to have passed, however for the machines in our station tech room, there is a new breath of cool air thanks to the generosity and support of Gosnells Communitity Bal , Benidgo Bank  Branch Manager Michelle Lennox.

Our servers now live in stable 23C comfort!

Thanks Bendigo Bank!

From the Chairman

Dear Member

HERITAGE FM UPDATE

Christmas and New Year are now behind us and 2013 is well underway.  A lot has been happening at Heritage FM since the Annual General Meeting was held in October 2012.  Whilst there is always much to be done there is a very positive atmosphere around the station and a good number of members and volunteers are becoming actively involved in the station’s activities.

COMMITTEES

The new look Committee of Management (CoM) is working towards getting the finances of the association into a better state.  A number of grant applications have been made and we have recently received funding for transmission equipment and air conditioning for the technical room at the station premises.  A lot of work is being done on reinstating the transmitter tower and you will be kept informed of progress on this front.  This particular matter is not without some complications but the CoM is confident that we will be able to see a good result.

There are now 2 sub-committees which are working diligently on their respective briefs.

The Business Committee is, amongst other things, devoting considerable time to increasing the number of station sponsors and organising fundraisers.  Two sausage sizzles have been booked for:

(1)       30 March 2013           -           Masters – Armadale (11.00am - 2pm)

(2)       27 April 2013             -           Bunnings – Harrisdale (8.30am - 4pm)

There is also a quiz night that will be held on 8 June 2013.  Further details will be supplied.

With respect to the sausage sizzles any offers of assistance would be greatly appreciated.  If you are able to help us cook a sausage or two and would like to enjoy the company of your fellow members then please contact  Neil Haring on 9-274-2511 or myself on 0407-424- 694.

The Programme, Scheduling and Technical Committee is working towards getting more announcers on air and the commission of a number of new programmes.  Dan Ennis has been doing a great job with the music scheduling and is currently training members to assist in this area.  Any one who is interested in helping with scheduling can contact Cynthia Keith at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

There are a number of diverse programmes currently running and we are hoping to expand even further with these.  Thanks go to all of our dedicated announcers who give their time to do their programmes and ensure that Heritage FM stays relevant to the local community.  Just as an example of the wide mix of programmes that are running here are 3 that are well worth a listen:

(1)           “Folk Plus” on Tuesday nights at 6.00pm

(2)           “Bollywood” on Thursday nights from 8.00pm

(3)           “In Your Neighbourhood” on Saturdays from 10.00am

There are many other great programmes currently running and we will soon be providing a schedule on the website.

Anyone who has a proposal for a programme is welcome to lodge an application with the Programme, Scheduling and Technical Committee.  Application forms can be obtained from Cynthia.  A course of training will be required.

The station was involved in coverage of the Australia Day celebrations this year held by the City of Armadale and will be involved in doing live crosses to a number of upcoming events such as the Hills Heartbeat Festival and Harmony Day (to name just a couple).

KEYS TO STATION

Over the years a number of keys to the station premises have been handed out to members, volunteers and announcers.  These come at a considerable cost and there are a few that are currently unaccounted for.  If you have one or know someone who has then please give them a prompt and return them to the station.

Give me a call and I’ll quite happily meet you to do the handover.  It would be a good excuse to drop into the station and see what is happening.

BUMPER STICKERS

The Business Committee recently commissioned an order of bumper stickers.  This is a trial run to see how they are accepted.  Any feedback on design and content would be appreciated.

There are 2 bumper stickers in this letter.  More are available from the station or at the sausage sizzles (another reason to come along!).  Hopefully the Heritage FM stickers have a bit more panache than the “My Other Car is a Broom” – type stickers that you see.  If they are well placed on your chosen mode of transport then it will help to raise our profile in the community.

MERCHANDISE

We have a very willing supplier of merchandise by way of Westcoats in Fremantle Road, Gosnells.  They can provide polo shirts, caps, jackets, towels, laptop bags, school bags, sport bags and hand towels with the Heritage FM logo.

The most commonly ordered items are the polo shirts ($40.00) and the caps ($20.00).  Colour options are red, black or white.

Please let Cynthia know if you would like an item and we will arrange an order.  This is another way of supporting your community radio station and also letting the wider world know that we exist.

                        *                                              *                                              *

As I have said before, 2013 looks to be an exciting one for Heritage FM.  There are many activities planned and there is a lot of energy going into helping the station grow.  Please remember to support our sponsors and let them know that you heard all about them on 107.3 HFM.

And again, thank you for your continued support as a member.

Yours faithfully

Ivan Miles
